Police Officer Hiring Process

The Garden City Police Department is accepting applications for both lateral and cadet police officers. Selected applicants will be subject to written testing, POST Physical Readiness test, extensive background investigation including character, financial, psychological review, fingerprinting and polygraph.

Starting wage is: $27.14 / hr. for new recruit, and DOE and POST certification for laterals.

    • POST certification pay (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced)
    • 11 paid holidays annually

    • Eight hours of accrued sick leave per month (accrued up to 1,040 hours)

  • Specialties are compensated per specialty, not to exceed three at any time
