Chinden and 43rd St. Enhanced Pedestrian Crossing

ACHD Project: Chinden Boulevard and 43rd Street Enhanced Crossing Construction Starts Soon

Starting as early as March, the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) will start construction on the Chinden Boulevard and 43rd Street Enhanced Crossing project. The purpose of this project is to improve safety and increase connectivity for pedestrians. Construction is expected to be complete by July 2026.*

Project Description

  • Construct a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon, a signalized crossing that stops vehicle traffic so people walking and biking can cross safely
  • Install a raised median to reduce conflicts between turning vehicles and crossing users and provide a safe refuge area for people walking and biking
  • Add high-visibility crosswalk striping to help drivers see the crossing
  • Use green paint at the bike crossing to improve visibility and separate people walking and biking

Construction Impacts

  • Lane shifts on Chinden. The center turn lane will be used to keep two lanes open during the day.
  • 43rd Street at Chinden will be closed during construction.
  • Lane restrictions with flaggers.
  • Pedestrian detours and sidewalk closures.
  • Construction noise, dust, equipment backup alarms, and ground vibration.
  • Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with occasional night work.
  • The contractor will work with property owners to minimize impacts.

*Construction schedules may change.
