• Annual Water Flushing Public Notice April 2025 •

March 6, 2025

PUBLIC NOTICE

On Sunday night, April 6th, the City of Garden City’s Public Works Department will begin the annual water main line flushing program.  The flushing is done to remove naturally occurring Iron and Manganese sediment that has accumulated in the water mains. The City offers two forms of treatment for these minerals; one method is to oxidize the iron and remove it by filtration, the other is the addition of Phosphate which binds the iron in solution to reduce its effects. We also add a small amount of chlorine for disinfection.

Crews will be flushing from 10:00 P.M. until 5:00 A.M, and will begin at the West end of the city in the vicinity of Chinden Blvd. and Joplin Rd.  Crews will work their way eastward over the next few weeks.

Garden City water customers in the vicinity of the mains being flushed may experience slight discoloration of their water.  This will be a temporary event which will clear up when the flushing is completed.  If you detect discoloration in your water, run a cold water tap for 5 to 10 minutes to determine if the water is clear.  If it is still discolored, repeat the process until the water runs clear.

The City of Garden City thanks its customers in advance for their understanding and cooperation.  If you have any questions regarding the annual flushing program, please call Garden City’s Operation Center at 208-472-2949, or visit our website at www.gardencityidaho.org
